Arkansas was the first out of the four states I visited in the during our Spring 2023 trip. It was very short, and only lasted for about a day. The night before Easter Sunday, I flew into the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Little Rock (the capital city). The airport is dedicated to the former governor and president, hence the name. I then left the airport and drove to the hotel.
The next day I walked along the Arkansas River to the Capitol Building. All of the streets were empty, and there were very few people, so much so that I could wander (and did) in the middle of the streets.
Upon arrival, the most visually appealing thing I noticed about the building were the huge, shimmering bronze doors. The dome, on the other hand, was not. I did not go inside, but walked around the capitol grounds. There, I saw what was called the Eternal Flame of Freedom, which was just a flame that continually burns atop a pillar.
After exploring the grounds some more, I saw the Liberty Bell. Surprisingly, Arkansas has a very nice set up for their bell. Four pillars surrounded the bell, and a cover was placed on top for protection. The plaque and clapper were present, but I could not ring the bell. Last, I walked back to the hotel and drove out the next day to Oklahoma.
