Replica (Allentown): September 2, 2017
This was the first state capital I visited with my family and also the trip when I discovered Liberty Bell replicas. In Harrisburg I saw the outside of the State Capitol Building and went to the State Museum of Pennsylvania. I was only five years old so my favorite part was pretending to garden in the children’s area! We had dinner at Appalachian Brewing Co. and it was really good.
On our way back home we decided to stop at the Liberty Bell Museum in Allentown. The Museum is actually in the basement of an old church where the real Liberty Bell was hidden during the Revolutionary War. This was where I found out every state in America had a replica of its own! The tour guide let me ring the bell gently and it was really cool!
Now I had a new mission – to visit every state, every capital, every state capitol building and every real and replica Liberty Bell in the USA by the time I am 18!
Original (Philadelphia): September 9, 2017
Now it was time to visit the real Liberty Bell. There was so much to see and do in Philadelphia! We took a double decker bus for a full tour of the City of Brotherly Love. Walking around we passed Benjamin Franklin’s grave and I through a penny on it for good luck. We also walked down the oldest street in the United States that still has people living there – Elfreth’s Alley. We visited The President’s House (what was left of it), the US Mint, The Eastern State Penitentiary, Independence Hall, The Franklin Institute, The Betsy Ross house and, of course, The Liberty Bell Center.
We stayed at the Hilton at Penn’s Landing and ate the famous Philly Cheesesteak at John’s Roast Pork. One night we met my cousin for dinner and ate at The Twisted Tail, which was delicious. I had such a great time and can’t wait to go back!
