MY VISIT

August 22, 2024

For my final state on my northwest trip, I did a lot. On my first day there, I visited the capitol building in Olympia, Washington. I went inside this time and took a tour, and learned a lot of interesting things. The building had the largest masonry dome in North America, along with the biggest Tiffany chandelier ever created. And, in a private reception room, is the forty-two star flag. When Washington became a state in November of 1889, they needed to wait for July fourth to add another star to the American flag. But, on July third, Idaho became a state. The day after the forty-three star flag got approved, not the forty-two one. So, Washington decided to make their own flag and put it in the capitol building. After visiting the Olympia, I drove to Tacoma to see the Liberty Bell. It was located behind the federal courthouse building in a small courtyard with lots of bushes, trees and flowers. The bell had a crack, plaque and ringer! After taking some pictures I walked across the Bridge of Glass, then visited the Museum of Glass. I never realized what could be created out of glass, and how beautiful it really is. I also got to see a demonstration of how glass is blown in the Hot Shop. It was a really cool experience! Later I ate dinner at Miyabi Sushi, and it was really delicious! Finally I drove to the hotel, checked in, and went up to my room for the night.

On my next day in Washington, I drove to my hotel and checked in. Since I arrived later in the day, I couldn’t do much. I walked over to the Beneath the Streets Tour, and it was pretty interesting. Underneath the sidewalks of Washington is an underground tunnel system, which used to be the original ground level of Seattle. I also learned about some of the history of Seattle, such as who it is named after and how it became such a popular city. After the tour I ate dinner at the restaurant attached to my hotel called the 13 Coins. I got a burger, and it tasted okay. Following dinner I took the elevator back up to my room and went to bed.

On my third day, I woke up, ate breakfast, and walked over to the Seattle Aquarium. It was kind of small, but had a lot of sea animals! They had seals, otters, and lots of other native fish. They also had birds, and my favorite were the puffins. After about an hour or two in the aquarium, I went to Pike Place Market, and took a picture by the big sign out front. I was also able to watch the famous fish tossing at Pike Place Fish Co., and it was funny, especially because of the fact that people stand right behind the guy catching the fish, so if he misses it will fly directly at them. After looking around some more, I decided to eat lunch/dinner at the market. First I got beef samosas at a vendor called Saffron Spice, and they were really good! Then I went to eat mini donuts at Daily Dozen Donuts Co., and the maple bacon ones were delicious. For my final stop of the day, I looked around Pier 57, which is where the ferris wheel is located. I didn’t go on it, but it was fun just walking around!

On my final day in Seattle, Washington, I started off the day by visiting the Space Needle. It takes forty-one seconds to get to the top, and what a view! It was kind of scary, since I was 520 feet above the city, but it was also amazing. On the top of the Armory (a food court building), there are two, 60 feet long daddy long legs painted on the roof. On the inside of the needle, I walked down the stairs to walk on the revolving glass floor, but I didn’t walk on it a whole lot since it was sort of daunting. Afterwards, I walked over to the Chihuly Garden & Glass, and just like the Glass Museum in Tacoma, it was incredible! There were huge glass chandeliers of all different colors hanging from the ceilings, glass animals and plants in pots, and of course, a garden! It was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend going to it. Since I was in the area, I took the Seattle monorail to downtown Seattle, then walked over to Elliot Bay and took a boat tour. It was really great, and was very informative. I learned a lot about Seattle, and I find it amazing how many famous people and businesses started there! I went back to Pike’s Place Market and ate at Pasta Casalinga, which was really good! My last day in Washington, I went to a hotel close to the airport, visited the quaint Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden in SeaTac and ate a good meal at Sharps Roasthouse. Finally, I woke up really early, went to the airport and left. Bye Washington!
