MY VISIT

June 22, 2023

My Wyoming adventure started at the Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne. I met with Mariah, who took me off site to visit the Liberty Bell. It was located in a huge warehouse, where the museum keeps all of their other items. I even had to go down (ask Stephen)! The bell was deconstructed, and there was no plaque, but it was an interesting experience. After Mariah showed me the bell, she gave me my own personal tour of the other historical objects in the storage facility.

Next, I toured the State Capitol grounds where I kept a lookout for the Chief Washakie and the Esther Hobart Morris Statues. Two other facts I found interesting about the Capitol Building were the floor tiles and the wooden staircases. The black tiles were imported from Tennessee and have little fossils embedded in them, whilst the white tiles came from Vermont. As for the staircases, Wyoming did not have many trees, so the oak was transported from Ohio. An upside down spindle is found on one of the staircase railings. This is to symbolize that only God is perfect.

The top thing that I did in Wyoming was feeding and petting bison at Terry Bison Ranch. There, I took a small train around the farm to a pasture where the bison were. As the ride stopped, the conductor yelled out a low “Wooo, wooo, wooo” and the bison wandered slowly over to the train. Holding a large pellet made of corn and vitamins, I put out my hand and the friendly bison gently took it. It was an amazing experience. During the ride I saw so many prairie dogs running around and since the farmland spans into Colorado, this short trip took us in and out of another state within a minute.
